We were told that the water bill increase would be roughly 35%. How is it that my October bill is nearly double?? We didn't use more than usual. I am frustrated because the office lady said it was all over the newspaper and there was meetings etc. Because we are actually a Plainfield address serviced by Joliet water, we got ZERO notice. Would it have done any good anyway? I think a 35% increase is way out of proportion, but to see a nearly 100% increase is outrageous. My water bill is as high as my gas bill. Anyone had the same increase? Any suggestions about what we can do? How is it in this economy, our city can be allowed to do this? And the most frustrating thing is that we have no alternative. There is no "competition" to keep them in check. We can't switch water companies. I would appreciate hearing any other input.

Hey hows that working out for you? Yeah im getting pounded ,too. My new new gripe is this 12% across the board property tax increase!! We are being told its because years ago, when the jackhammer ballpark was built ,bonds were issued to pay for it. Repayment for the bonds was to be funded thru Casino boat revenue. Well now they tell us that casino revenue didnt meet expectations! Well whose pocket did it go into??!!
Funny how after the Empress fire and subsequent rebuild that suddenly we all have this massive tax increase??? Remember they continued to pay all casino employees salary while they were furloughed awaiting the rebuild. Oh yeah, like you..my address is Plainfield but Im getting it stuck in my rear end as well. So lets see, big unemployment, high water bill, and now high real estate tax bill. Great to live in Joliet aint it?? I would love to see their their actual expenditure budget complete with salaries. Im sure other ideas could be used to resolve this water and tax increase!!!

When are government officials ever going to understand that they cannot raise every fee and tax that we pay to take care of their inability to balance a budget. Lord knows everyone one of us has to do it or we end up in bankruptcy court. As our children age, we are forced to pay more federal income taxes (at least my wife and I are), all of these higher fees, employers that can't afford to give raises and in some cases have to layoff workers. And if this wasn't enough, both the federal and state governments are saying that they will need to increase taxes to cover their expenses. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just walk into our employers and tell them that they will need to give me a raise to cover my expenses. At the rate that taxes and fees are increasing, pretty soon I am going to be sending my entire paycheck to the federal, state , and city governments. I also do not receive the new papers any longer so was totally unaware of the increase. Maybe they could have posted something on the bill to inform us about this or had a toatlly separate mailing to inform us. Sorry the paper is too depressing any more to read.
